Born in Section Zero
Where innovation meets passion
From Zero to One: The Design Team
Combining experience and design with cutting-edge engineering
Before founding Section Zero, Michael Lin had limited design experience. In 2007, while designing the IF MODE folding bike, he learned SolidWorks within just two weeks. IF MODE went on to win the prestigious iF Design Award Gold in 2009, along with multiple other honors including the Red Dot Award. Michael Lin's reputation quickly rose within the bicycle industry, bringing numerous ODM collaboration opportunities to Pacific Cycles.
Section Zero not only develops sustainable Pacific products but also provides innovative solutions to enhance usability. The team defines the lifecycle of bicycles, explores market opportunities, and establishes guidelines to effectively communicate and sell their vision.
The Section Zero team goes beyond traditional engineering roles, which is why their business cards simply read "Section Zero,"rather than"Designer' or "Engineer." Since Pacific's manufacturing departments are numbered 1 to 3, the team's name reflects its unique mission. Unlike other design studios, Section Zero combines practical manufacturing experience with market insights. They don't follow the latest trends; instead, they maintain an open mindset to create distinctive alternatives. Their originality enables Pacific to stand out from meaningless competition.

Pacific Cycles' internal design studio was originally founded by CEO Michael Lin and designer Stijn Deferm.
To combine experience and design with cutting-edge engineering, Michael expanded the team by adding three seasoned engineers, each bringing diverse expertise to Section Zero.

Kain Gailiver possesses a unique blend of skills in industrial design, graphic design, engineering, and consulting.
As the former owner, chief designer, and CEO of Craftworks Cycles, Kain shares a similar vision for innovative product development with Michael Lin, making their collaboration a natural fit.

Stijn Deferm is a designer from Belgium who began his career as a professional downhill mountain biker, competing in multiple World Cup events and winning three national championships.
He combines a keen eye for vehicle aesthetics with a deep understanding of performance, making him a distinctive designer in the industry. Stijn later joined German company Riese & Müller, where he led the styling design of the all-new second-generation BIRDY. After joining Section Zero, he co-designed the third-generation BIRDY and REACH folding bikes.

Naotaka Yoshimatsu was formerly a designer at the renowned Japanese game company Namco. He is now the president of Tartaruga Entertainment Works and owns his own bike brand.
He designed the striking exterior paint scheme for Pacific's CARRYME and created attractive, practical accessories for other Pacific models.

Thomas Wang is an experienced engineer specializing in e-assist design and simulation analysis, responsible for ensuring the quality of all Section Zero projects.
In addition to e-assist bicycles, he has designed various specialized vehicles. His highly adaptable designs aim to meet the diverse needs of users, especially those with disabilities.

It's an attitude
